1936 1C Doubled Die Obverse Type Two MS66 Red PCG
1936<1C> Doubled Die Obverse Type Two MS66 Red PCGS. FS-015. Writing in 2000, Bill Fivaz and J. T. Stanton (The Cherrypickers' Guide to Rare Die Varieties) note that this variety is "extremely rare in Mint State." The broken upright on the R in LIBERTY distinguishes FS-015 from FS-014 and FS-016. The surfaces are so smooth that to even consider a grade lower than the MS66 level would be an injustice to the coin. Both sides are fully lustrous with a bright, orange-red sheen and rippling visual effects. The doubling, while discernible to the well trained eye, is most appreciable under a loupe. Population: 10 in 66 (presumably for all die varieties of the 1936 Doubled Die Cent), with none finer (3/05).
From The Tom Mershon #2 All-Time PCGS Registry Set of Lincoln Wheat Cents.
