1936 1C Doubled Die MS66 Red PCGS. Type Two. FS-015. Writing in 2000, Bill Fivaz and J. T. Stanton (The Cherrypickers' Guide to Rare Die Varieties) note that this variety is "extremely rare in Mint State." The broken upright on the R in LIBERTY distinguishes FS-015 from FS-014 and FS-016. The surfaces are so smooth that to even consider a grade lower than the MS66 level would be an injustice to the coin. Both sides are fully lustrous with a bright, orange-red sheen and rippling visual effects. The doubling, while discernible to the well trained eye, is most appreciable under a loupe. Population: 10 in 66 (presumably for all die varieties of the 1936 Doubled Die Cent), with none finer (7/02). Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
