A 1935A Series $1 Silver Certificate issued as part of the Hawaii Emergency Currency during World War II. Issued under the authorization of Treasury officials W.A. Julian and Henry Morgenthau Jr., this note features the portrait of George Washington at center, surrounded by classical guilloche borders and scrollwork, with overprinted "HAWAII" designations on both the front and reverse. The front exhibits a brown Treasury seal and matching serial numbers, while the reverse is printed in green ink and prominently overprinted with a large black "HAWAII" spanning its width. These notes were created to be easily demonetized in the event of an invasion of the Hawaiian Islands. FR. 2300
