1935 Vernon Lefty Gomez Signed Contract
1935 Vernon "Lefty" Gomez Signed Uniform Player's Contract. After earning the coveted pitching Triple Crown in 1934 with American League-leading numbers in ERA (2.33), wins (26) and strike outs (158), the Hall of Fame southpaw was able to secure a significant salary increase for the 1935 season. Gomez and team owner Jake Ruppert were able to agree upon a salary of $20,000 for the upcoming year, with each signing his consent to the terms at the close of the contract in 10/10 black ink (Ruppert's autograph secretarially signed by Ed Barrow). Gomez signs in his rare and desirable "Vernon Gomez" format. Witness E.G. Barrow has signed as well, another important Hall of Fame autograph applied with 10/10 boldness. Contract exhibits light wear upon original storage folds, but nothing of any concern. A special piece reflective of one of the greatest pitching seasons in baseball history.
