1935-S$1> MS67 NGC. Four rays beneath ONE, thought by some to be the scarcer of the two subtypes for the issue. The San Francisco Mint, along with the Philadelphia facility, produced the final Peace dollars in 1935. The total mintage for the '35-S is a relatively modest 1.9 million pieces. Nevertheless, this issue is readily obtainable in all grades through the MS64 level, and even MS65 coins can be located with a little patience. In finer grades, the '35-S is rare, and neither service has yet to certify a coin above the present level.
This is a beautifully frosted, bright, essentially untoned, snow-white example. While S-mint Peace dollars are typically characterized by poor striking quality, this coin is boldly, if not sharply struck in all areas. There are few abrasions, none of which are sizeable, and virtually none of which are located in the prime focal areas. Simply put, this is a beautiful coin and one of the most important '35-S Peace Dollars that we have ever offered. Census: 2 in 67, 0 finer (2/06).
From The Robert Moreno Registry Collection of Peace Dollars.
