1935-S: An interesting (and unique to this cataloger) original work by George Washington "Bo" Hughes after his 1957 hand injury. While most of the curly hair was created by either a nail set or "beading tool," to my knowledge, this is the only time Bo used a number "5" punch on any coin. The lower portions of the hair, the sideburn, the beard, and the moustache were fashioned with this number punch. Highly unusual. The usual "C" punch was used for the ear on this Average carving, and JAX was punched into the coin behind the neck, probably the nickname of the image on the coin, or where it was made (Jacksonville, FL). The host coin is a Very Fine piece, and it has been darkened, as were many of Bo's later works.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
