1935-D 50C Arkansas MS67 PCGS. This coin commemora
1935-D 50C Arkansas MS67 PCGS. This coin commemorates the June 15, 1836 admission of Arkansas to the Union. However, the first issue was coined in 1935. The obverse design, according to Bowers (1991) shows conjoined portraits facing left of an Indian, intended to be a native Arkansas resident of 1836, and a young woman, representative of an Arkansas resident of 1936. The reverse depicts an eagle with outstretched wings standing on the sun, which displays prominent rays. Above the eagle is a partly visible parallelogram, with stars in the border and enclosing additional stars and the word ARKANSAS, adapted from the state flag.
The Superb D-mint specimen offered here exhibits highly lustrous surfaces dominated by warm medium-intensity golden-gray patina, with rainbow accents on the obverse and pale blue and faded crimson highlights on the reverse. The design elements are well impressed, though the eagle's breast and neck feathers are just a trifle soft, as is characteristic of the type. Both sides are well preserved, revealing no significant marks. Population: 30 in 67, 0 finer (1/05).
From the Bruce Scher #1 All-Time PCGS Registry Set. Lot:4144
