1935 5C Doubled Die Reverse MS64 ANACS.
1935<5C> Doubled Die Reverse MS64 ANACS. FS-018. FIVE CENTS and PLURIBUS UNUM are nicely die doubled southeast. The bison's eye, horn, and hair also exhibit doubling. The Cherrypickers' Guide states, "This variety is extremely rare in any grade above VF. About 10 are known in Mint State." The Guide Book lists the variety, but it is unpriced above AU50. The present lustrous near-Gem offers rich orange and gunmetal-gray toning. The strike is sharp aside from the expected slight softness above the braid and on the bison's front shoulder. No mentionable marks are located. The Three Legged 1937-D is always available for a price, but the remaining Guide Book error varieties are all highly desirable, and the opportunity to acquire a quality Mint State piece is fleeting.
