1935<50C> Connecticut MS67 PCGS. The Charter Oak was where officials of the Connecticut Colony in 1687 secreted the colony's Royal Charter (or perhaps a copy, according to an alternative version of the legend) to keep it away from a representative of King James II. Since the king had consolidated several former colonies into the Dominion of New England to lessen their individual power and to exert firmer control, his representative felt that reclaiming the Connecticut charter (and those of other former colonies) would have actual and symbolic value.
This Superb Gem half dollar offers gold luster and light gray-gold surfaces, with tinges of sunset-gold, jade-green, and carmine at the rims on both sides. PCGS has graded a single specimen finer (7/06).
From The Troy Wiseman Collection.
