1935<1C> MS68 Red PCGS. As the nation was coming out of the throes of depression, mintages slowly increased. With the exception of a few commemorative issues, the Mint was nearly idle during the previous few years. David Lange, The Complete Guide to Lincoln Cents, discussed the report of Mint Director Nellie Taylor Ross who stated: "The coinage mints operated for long periods on the basis of two shifts or three shifts daily. The great demand for domestic coin during the fiscal year 1935 was evidently occasioned principally by increased business activity incident to progress toward economic recovery." Once production increased, the Mint began purchasing pre-made blank planchets for the small cents, something that hadn't been done in over a decade. This is a superb example with fully brilliant and frosty orange luster. All design elements are boldly defined and the surfaces are free of any of the spots that often plague these copper issues. Several die cracks are visible on both sides, along with some flowlines and polish lines, indicating a late die state. Population: 5 in 68, 0 finer (3/05).
