1934 Walter Johnson Handwritten Signed Letter.
1934 Walter Johnson Handwritten Signed Letter. Tremendous baseball content makes this rare correspondence one of the most desirable of the slim supply of Johnson letters. The Big Train discusses the recent World Series victory by Dizzy Dean's Gashouse Gang, writing in part, "...Was a sad final for Detroit, wasn't it? I thought St. Louis would win out, of course I was pulling for Detroit..." While we could conclude that the 1934 Series was the subject merely by the Detroit vs. St. Louis match-up, the included "The Cleveland Baseball Company" mailing envelope, postmarked "October 31, 1934" eliminates any doubt. Both the letter and the envelope are penned entirely in Johnson's 9/10 black ink, with the former bearing the legendary hurler's closing autograph. Original mailing folds, minor paper loss that does not intersect with any writing, and a degree of uneven toning are apparent, but our catalog imagery should illustrate that these factors are of little concern. A very scarce ALS from an inaugural class Hall of Famer. LOA from PSA/DNA.
