1934 Harvey E. Orser Wood Toy Furniture Set (7)
Featured in this lot is this wood furniture toy set made by Harvey E. Orser in 1934. In the 1930s, toy maker and woodworker Harvey E. Orser produced a line of miniature furniture for dolls and dollhouses. Furniture made by Orser was renowned for its fine craftsmanship and attention to detail. High-quality hardwoods like maple and birch were used in the construction of Orser's furniture, which was made using conventional woodworking methods like mortise and tenon joints. To bring out the beauty of the wood grain, the furniture was finished with a clear varnish and a natural wood stain. The drawers and hinged doors on Orser's furniture allowed it to be both aesthetically pleasing and useful. Additionally, the furniture was made to fit the time's common 1:12 scale dollhouses.
Orser's furniture was sold through department stores and specialty toy stores, and was well-regarded for its quality and attention to detail. This set features seven pieces, two candle holders, two porcelain dogs and an original photo from 1934 showing the toy furniture set. The set includes a fence, a large desk, a coffee table, a bedside desk, a dresser, a mirrored dresser and a large bed with storage under the mattress section. The pieces are finely carved and hand made with some pieces showing glass mirrors. The candle holders hold three candles and the candles have real wicks and are made of real wax. The two porcelain dogs show colors of white and brown with one in a sitting position and one lying down. The pieces are in good condition for their vintage age, but are fragile with some pieces falling off. Some pieces are loose but overall the pieces are still in standing condition. The largest piece measures 11 1/4" L x 6 3/8" W x 7 1/2" H, while the smallest piece measures 2 1/8" L x 4" W x 2 3/8" H. There are several lose pieces and small damages.
