1932 Lou Gehrig Signed Autograph Request Letter.
1932 Lou Gehrig Signed Autograph Request Letter. Mailed from San Francisco on September 6, 1932, this letter was likely waiting for the Yankee legend upon his return from a lengthy road trip that saw Gehrig club a grand slam and drive in four more runs in a fourteen-inning loss to the Detroit Tigers. The charming letter is typed upon the letterhead of the young collector's father, and reads, "Dear Mr. Gehrig: Will you kindly honor me with your signature to add to my collection of autographs from famous sporting men? I assure you that I will be very happy if you will grant me this priviledge (sic) and enclosed please find a return addressed stamped envelope. Again thanking you and wishing much luck, I am Respectfully yours, Willie Ritchie Jr." Besides young Willie's closing signature the Iron Horse provides his own, remaining in fine 9+/10 pencil three quarters of a century later. The letter is likewise in fine condition, with only original mailing folds to note, and is expensively matted and framed with a marvelous modern print of a batting portrait and an engraved plaque supplying a brief Gehrig biography. Total dimensions 26x28". LOA from PSA/DNA.
