1932 Jim Thorpe Signed Photograph. Former President Dwight D. Eisenhower, whose own leg was broken by the Native American sporting legend in a 1912 gridiron meeting between Army and the Carlisle Indian School, recalled Thorpe in a 1961 speech, saying, "Here and there, there are some people who are supremely endowed. My memory goes back to Jim Thorpe. He never practiced in his life, and he could do anything better than any other football player I ever saw." Here we present the finest photographic portrait we've encountered of this gifted superstar, printed with crystal clarity to a size of 8x10". At right, the subject signs in 9+/10 black ink, "Sincerely, Jim Thorpe, Oct. 17th, 1932." The photo is likewise in flawless condition, sporting a lengthy handwritten biography of Thorpe on verso, seemingly in the hand of the photographer. A majestic piece of the highest quality. LOA from PSA/DNA.
