1932-D<25C> MS65 PCGS. The key date 1932-D and 1932-S quarters have for years been at about the same price and level of interest. In an article entitled "1932-S quarter losing ground to 1932-D" published in the March 14, 2006 issue of Numismatic New, Paul Green writes that this has changed over time: "...the higher mintage 1932-D (is) actually...tougher in higher grades than the 1932-S. He continues: "...by MS60, the 1932-D is at $1,000, while the 1932-S is at $500....in MS65 the 1932-D is at $26,500, while the 1932-S is at $7,700."
The Gem '32-D offered in this lot displays whispers of light olive-tan that are slightly more prominent on the obverse, and an arc of deep rainbow-like toning along the lower reverse border. Excellent definition is apparent on the design elements, and the surfaces reveal pleasing luster. A few minute marks on Washington's forehead and cheek are well within the confines of the MS65 grade level. Population: 63 in 65, 1 finer (4/06).
From The Ron W. Keeney Collection.
