1932 $20 MS66 NGC.
1932 $20 MS66 NGC. The final collectible (at least for those without $10 million in their coin budget) issue of the Saint-Gaudens series and without a doubt one of the most elusive. The 1932 was extensively melted after gold was recalled the following year. Only a few dozen coins survived from an original mintage of more than one million pieces. The 1932 double eagles that did escape melting have a tendency to be quite attractive and this Superb example does not disappoint in that regard. Splendid orange patina dances across fresh, original surfaces that are particularly notable for their vibrancy and eye appeal. The few appreciable contact marks tend to be concentrated on Liberty's gown and at the back of the eagle's wings. A prized rarity in nearly unimprovable condition.Population: 5 in 66, 0 finer (11/03).Ex: 2003 FUN Sale (Heritage, 1/03), lot 9404, where it realized $58,650.
