1932 $10 MS66 NGC. It is a mystery why the Philadelphia Mint produced so many Indian Head eagles during the darkest days of the Great Depression, at a time when there was no question that they would fail to circulate. After all, the song "Buddy, Can You Spare a Dime?" premiered the year before, in 1931. Quarter eagle and half eagle coinage ceased in 1929, and the Mint produced only 1.1 million double eagles in 1932. It made no nickels, dimes, half dollars, or silver dollars that year. Despite the curious logic behind the eagle production, numismatists today can thank their lucky stars, as the plentiful emission made available fantastic high-grade specimens such as the present coin. Superlative reddish-orange surfaces reveal a near-total lack of abrasions, with radiant luster and enormous eye appeal. NGC has certified only seven coins finer (4/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
