1931 Babe Didrikson Presentational Loving Cup
1931 Babe Didrikson Presentational Loving Cup. Just twenty years old when this trophy was presented to her, the future US Women's Open Champion and Olympic Gold Medalist was likely being thanked for her service as a ringer of sorts for the Employers Casualty Insurance Co. of Dallas basketball team, which earned the Amateur Athletic Union Championship this year with Babe at the helm. Also possible, though less likely, is that the prize bore some connection to her victory in the 1931 State Fair of Texas sewing competition. Regardless of the facts of the case, this marvelous silver cup stands as the earliest trophy we've ever encountered from the remarkable life of the century's greatest female athlete. Our consignor relates that it was purchased from the family of a caretaker at the Woodlands Country Club near Houston, Texas, which once housed the Texas Golf Hall of Fame. When the small museum folded, the caretaker was instructed to dispose of its contents, and wisely chose to salvage at least a portion for himself. The engraved text upon this simple nine-inch tall trophy reads, "To Mildred Didrikson from Dallas Junior Chamber of Commerce in Appreciation of Your Outstanding Service to Dallas, 1931." Only an expected degree of tarnishing and some mild surface wear is to be noted in terms of condition issues. A special, early artifact from this storied twentieth century athletic icon.

Shipping: Miscellaneous Collectibles, Smal (view shipping information)
