1930's Branch Rickey Signed Photograph. While Rickey's days in uniform as both a player and manager were undistinguished at best, his front office work ranks him among the most important executives in the history of Major League Baseball. Best remembered today as the man who guided Jackie Robinson across the color line in 1947, this photo finds him around the time he served as the masterful architect of the St. Louis Cardinals' "Gashouse Gang." The exceptional sepia image offers the finest quality inscription we've ever seen from Rickey on a photo, reading, "You honor me if you show this--Branch Rickey." The 8x10" photo is likewise Mint, in its original frame. Included is a second unsigned photo of Rickey from the same approximate era, 7x10" in original frame. One of a number of photographs from the personal collection of top Texas League executive John Alvin Gardner featured in this auction. LOA from PSA/DNA.
