Margins: Full, as issued.<p>Bonnard, born in 1867 in Paris, was a key transitional figure between the Impressionism of artists such as Monet and Cezanne and the Modernism of his contemporaries, Picasso and Matisse. As a bridge between two schools, Bonnard has always been an acknowledged master of color and light. Working much of the time from his light-filled villa outside Cannes, he painted more than 2000 works, 384 of them of Marthe, a mistress who became his wife and for decades was his model for intimate nudes. Etching - An intaglio printing process in which an etching needle is used to draw into a wax ground applied over a metal plate. The plate is then submerged in a series of acid baths, each biting into the metal surface only where unprotected by the ground. The ground is removed, ink is forced into the etched depressions, the unetched surfaces wiped, and an impression is printed.
