1930-S $10 MS65 NGC. Only once before [September 2002]
1930-S $10 MS65 NGC. In September 2002 we offered three examples of this rare date Indian eagle in a single sale, and the finest of those was just MS64. Today, we are pleased to offer three MS65 grade pieces, nearly the finest available examples of the date. In 1926, the Philadelphia Mint coined over 1 million eagles, an ample supply for commerce of the remainder of the 1920s. The mintage of this 1930-S issue was halted after 96,000 coins were produced, and even these pieces were not needed in commerce, thus most remained in Mint or Treasury vaults until they were melted in 1933. Although this date is not impossible to locate in Gem quality, examples are certainly elusive, with just 27 MS65 examples certified by NGC and PCGS, and only eight finer pieces.
This gorgeous Gem is just a few marks shy of being the finest graded, with just three coins certified as high as MS67. Both sides have highly lustrous and brilliant orange-gold surfaces with no breaks in the luster on either side. A minor blemish is evident in the left obverse field with a tiny tick on Liberty's cheek. Otherwise, both sides are pristine and exceptionally attractive. This piece has a sharp strike. Only a couple hair strands below LIBERTY show any inconsistency of detail. Every detail of the eagle on the reverse is remarkably full and complete. Even the claws show nearly full detail. For the connoisseur who seeks exceptional aesthetic appeal, this coin and the present sale offer an exceptional opportunity.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
