<B>1930 Kenesaw Mountain Landis Signed Photograph.</B></I> Arresting photographic portrait bespeaks the stern, no-nonsense character of the man who banished Shoeless Joe and the rest of the conspiring Black Sox from organized ball. A black fountain pen inscription from the Hall of Fame commissioner reads, "To John Gardner, with my good wishes, Kenesaw M. Landis." Imperfect ink flow has left a few turns of the pen to be white scratches in the emulsion, but even these register boldly and the vast majority of the writing maintains a 9/10 strength. A handwritten date at lower left, and what we assume to be a photographer's mark at lower right, are rendered in an unknown hand. Photo measures 7x9" in size and survives in magnificent NRMT condition. One of a number of photographs from the personal collection of top Texas League executive John Alvin Gardner featured in this auction. <I>LOA from PSA/DNA.
