1930-50s Hand Carved Wood Lady Bug Fishing Decoy
For your consideration is this 1930-50s hand carved wood and lead filled fishing decoy mimicking a lady bug. Fish spearing decoys were primarily used when ice fishing with spears, but were also used in normal fishing to attract fish to already placed baited lines. This decoy is mimicking a lady bug, showing colors of red and black throughout the piece. The back shows a base red color with black polka dots and a base color of black on the head with red outlined eyes. There are metal strands hanging off the bottom and the top of the head to mimic legs and antennas. There is a small metal loop near the base of the head to attach fishing line. The bottom has been carved out, filled with lead and covered with wood again to keep the decoy flat in the water. The decoy shows good condition with wear from use and its vintage age, showing rusting on the metal components, but is still in good working or display condition. The decoy measures 3 3/4" L x 3 7/8" W x 1 1/2" H.
