1929-S<25C> Standing Liberty Quarter--Broadstruck Out of Collar--MS62 PCGS. The planchet was broadstruck out of the collar due south, so that the lovely dot-dash border of a normal Standing Liberty quarter morphs into various forms, depending on where it is on the flan. Above Liberty's head the border appears normal, but a second raised rim appears above it. The lower half of the "normal" border merges with the second rim at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock and below, and at 6 o'clock, the die strike has obliterated the lower half of the 1929. The coin is lightly patinated with heather and gold on each side, but an unfortunate scratch passes though the eagle and into the left reverse field, without which a higher grade would be certain. The shield and head details are pleasing, if not full, and the eye appeal is considerable. Standing Liberty quarters of any stripe are rare, as these coins were made in an era when Mint workers seemingly took great pride in making a superior product. This interesting coin would be the centerpiece of any advanced error collection.
