1929 New York Yankees Panoramic Photograph
1929 New York Yankees Panoramic Photograph. Though Murderer's Row would take a backseat to Connie Mack's second great Philadelphia Athletics dynasty this season, all of your favorite Golden Age Yanks are here. Miller Huggins appears at center, unaware that he wouldn't live to see the end of the season. The Babe stands in the back, and Gehrig is at far left in the center row. Combs, Lazzeri, Dickey, Hoyt, Durocher and Pennock round out the Hall of Fame cast. We can't forget the hunchbacked batboy Eddie Bennett either, who squats third from the left. Black Sox conspirator Hap Felsch brought him into the Chicago fold as a good luck charm from 1917 all the way through the 1919 World Series before he was passed on to the Brooklyn Dodgers and ultimately the Yanks, where he would serve for over a decade. The superstitious ballplayers swore by his magical powers, and Babe Ruth demanded that Bennett be the first to greet him after a home run so that another would come soon. Only a vertical center fold can be noted as a flaw in condition, as the rare 7x20" shot is otherwise unimprovable. Photo is matted and framed to 12x25". We are all but certain that this photo was made available only to team members as it certainly does not have the formal look of team shots made for mass distribution. The cast of characters and flawless focus and contrast makes this Spring Training shot pure gold.

Shipping: Framed (view shipping information)
