1929 $5 MS64 PCGS. Collecting high grade Indian H
1929<$5> MS64 PCGS. Collecting high grade Indian Half Eagles is certainly no picnic, and this example is one of the stoppers in the series. This is the final Indian Half Eagle and it is the only example of its type minted in the 1920s. In fact, it had been 13 years since the design had been struck. Although records show an official mintage of 662,000 coins, seventh highest of the design, few were released and those that did leave government hands were promptly hoarded. It is hard to estimate the actual number of coins that were distributed, although the number must have been very small. In all grades combined, PCGS has only certified 265 examples of this issue. This is the second lowest total population of the design, behind only the 1909-S rarity. Like all other known examples of the issue, this one has frosty yellow-gold luster with scattered surface marks. Hints of pink color are noted on both sides. Current PCGS population data indicates that just eight finer examples have been certified, all MS65. This is a splendid Choice Mint State example that would be a nice addition to any collection. Population: 87 in 64, 8 finer (5/05).
