1929 $2.50 Indian
1929 $2.50 Indian. PCGS graded MS-65. Housed in an OGH. Rich golden toning. Splendidly original with exceptional clean surfaces and thick mint frost. Subtly variegated patina adds even more to the overall appeal of this high grade piece. The pressure transmitted from the die to the blank reveals itself in sharp devices. Both the Indian $2.50 and $5.00 denominations ceased production after 1929’s coinage. However, the $10 and $20 gold was struck on into 1933 before minting of United States gold coins was suspended until 1986. Pop 112; 3 finer, 2 in 66, 1 in 67 (PCGS # 7953) .

Historic note: The United States went off the Gold Exchange Standard (1925-33) in 1933. A substitute Dollar-Gold standard was implemented after World War II and went by the name of the Bretton Woods system (1944-73). Today, the world's economies run on what can best be described as a Non-standard, or perhaps Faith-based Standard, without any definitive "backing" of the monetary units.
Estimated Value $4,500 - 5,000.

Provenance: This is part of the #3 ranked PCGS Registry Set.
