A lustrous Gem that has exquisite surfaces and a very good strike. Mintage of Philadelphia Mint 1928 Dollars declined markedly over what it had been in 1927 and prior years. This may partially be explained by the fact that, after 1921, the Treasury had to replace all 270 million Morgan Dollars melted under the terms of the Pittman Act of 1918. By 1928 this order had been completed. Mint officials, who were never overjoyed with the politically inspired issuance of large quantities of silver dollars anyway, happily stopped production. In the end, only 360,649 1928 Peace Dollars were made. Production did not begin again until 1934 (under terms of a new enactment).
