This 1928 American LaFrance was 1 of only 3 built in Toronto ON that year.  It was in service in Timmins, ON until the mid - 1940's.   It was later found on a farm in Calendar ON (we do not know how it got there) and a friend of the land owner advised the owner to move the truck inside to preserve it.  In 2001 Glen Smeltzer purchased the truck from Calendar and brought it to Becher, ON where he restored it over several years.  In 2009 he was able to have the truck display ready for the May, 2010 Becher Hook and Ladder Antique Expo. The truck was ran in both the 2010 St Thomas Fire Muster (the largest in Canada) and in a local event, WAMBO (Wallaceburg Antique Motor Boat Outing). The truck does run and was last used for Mr Smeltzer’s funeral parade.  The trailer is a 53' long closed in ramp gate.  The gate is motorized for easy opening and closing (controlled by a hand help remote that plugs into the truck).  Inside there is a winch to help pull the truck into the trailer and gently guide it out.  The inside of the trailer also has a large storage space in the front.
