1928<50C> Hawaiian PR63 PCGS. The Hawaiian Sesquicentennial half dollar was designed by Juliette May Fraser, a native of Honolulu and apparently unrelated to the husband and wife coin designing team of James Earle Fraser and Laura Gardin Fraser. Total mintage for this issue in all versions was 10,008 coins, and all were distributed, an unusual situation in the field of commemorative coins. This distribution took nearly 60 years to accomplish, as the last of these pieces were not sold until 1986.
Just 50 proofs were produced using a special sandblast process that produced a matte-like dull gray finish to the coins. This example is one of those with hints of pale yellow toning on each side. Both surfaces have a few scattered marks that prevent a higher grade, but the overall appearance and quality is impressive.
