<B>1928<50C> Hawaiian MS64 NGC.</B></I> A Choice Mint State example, and very nearly Gem quality, with fully brilliant silver surfaces and satiny luster. Both sides are sharply struck, within the context of this issue. The 1928 Hawaiian Sesquicentennial half dollar, commemorating the discovery of the Hawaiian islands by Captain James Cook some 150 years earlier, is a key issue to the series. Total production amounted to just 10,008 coins, of which eight pieces were reserved for assay purposes, and 50 were struck in the matte proof format. Many of the 9,950 coin mintage remained in the vaults of the Bank of Hawaii until they were sold in 1986.
