1928 (28 January) letter from Governor General of the Irish Free State, Tim Healy, to the Chief Justice, Hugh Kennedy.
typescript on headed black edged mourning paper in a black edged mourning envelope of the Vice Regal Lodge.
18 by 11cm., 7 by 4.5in.

The envelope bears the stamp of the Governor General's office. This is one of the last letters Healy would write as Governor General as he resigned a few days later. His wife had died in 1927, hence the mourning stationery. Also with this lot another letter from Tim Healy dated 30 December 1930, this time from his private residence, Glenaulin in Chapelizod. Tim Healy was a famous Nationalist, having served as an Irish Party MP at Westminster from 1885 to 1918, for various constituencies including Monaghan, Longford, Louth and Cork. He was appointed Governor General of the Irish Free State by King George V on the recommendation of President WT Cosgrave.
