1928 $2 1/2 MS66 NGC. As the pace of commerce picked up from the doldrums of the Harding Administration and America advanced into the Roaring Twenties, the Mint began to strike gold coins other than the double eagle for domestic use, a practice that had been all but abandoned just before the start of the Great War. The Roaring Twenties, however, did not last, and in 1929, the quarter eagle and half eagle were the first denominations to cease production. The 1928 quarter eagle was the fourth of just five issues in that denomination's brief return to commerce.
This frosty and delightful example offers attractive apricot-gold surfaces with elements of peach. The strike is crisp in the centers with only the slightest evidence of peripheral weakness. A wonderfully well-preserved example that would fit perfectly in a condition-focused date or type set. Census: 9 in 66, 0 finer (7/07).

Coin Engraver: Bela Lyon Pratt

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information\)
