<B>1927-S 5C MS65 <img border='0' src='http://www.heritagecoins.com/images/star.gif' width=10 height=10> NGC.</B></I> The year 1927 continued the pattern for prior years of Buffalo nickel production. The lion's share of 1927-dated nickels were struck at Philadelphia. The combined Denver and San Francisco mintages were less than one-fourth that of the mother mint, and of the two branch mint issues, the 1927-S had the lesser production, a mere 3.43 million pieces. Most of these pieces were removed from circulation during the 1930s, once coin folders were widely distributed. By that time, Mint State examples were very scarce. This nicely struck Gem has a sharp strike for an S-mint issue, and the peripheral ruby-red and ocean-blue toning is sufficiently lovely to merit a Star designation from NGC.
