1927-S 50C MS64 PCGS. These were the first half dollars minted (except for commemoratives) since 1923, and they displayed several problems. Bruce Fox (1993) writes of the 1927-S that: "They were rapidly needed to support commercial business needs and were not minted and handled with the utmost care. Strike is a major problem with consistent weakness in both the central obverse and reverse." The MS64 coin in this lot exhibits a somewhat better-than-average strike. Some of the usual weakness is noted in the centers, but most of the gown lines are bold, and Liberty's head is well defined. Dazzling luster enlivens well preserved surfaces that exhibit whispers of reddish-tan at the margins. All in all, a pleasing example of what is typically a poorly produced issue.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
