It is even rarer than the 1916, even though almost eight times as many coins were struck as the 1916 was saved in rather substantial numbers. Apparently very few people thought to set aside Mint State quarters in 1927 from the San Francisco mint as only a few dozen are extant today. At the MS66 level, the 1927-S is one of the foremost condition rarities in all of 20th century U.S. numismatics. The doctor who consigned this coin had an unerring eye for quality as well as value. The surfaces on this piece sparkle with bright mint luster and, as one would expect, there are no abrasions evident. While not technically a Full Head coin, there are two distinct sprigs in Liberty's hair and the remainder of the head is complete except for the area around the ear. Mostly brilliant, there is just the slightest hint of golden color present on each side. An exceptionally well preserved example of this classic rarity and an excellent value. Population: 27 in 66, 4 finer (10/03).<BR><I>From The Dr. Robert Wharton Collection.</B></I> </FONT></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><BR><A name=PricesRealized></A><TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="100%" bgColor=#000000 border=0><TBODY><TR><TD width="100%"><TABLE cellSpacing=1 cellPadding=3 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD width="100%" bgColor=#79735c><A name=PR><FONT face=arial color=#ffffff size=3><B>Previous Prices from Heritage Auctions</B> </FONT></A></TD></TR><TR><TD bgColor=#f6f6ed><TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="100%" border=1><TBODY><TR><TD align=middle width="33%"><B>Date</B></TD><TD align=middle width="33%"><B>Service</B></TD><TD align=middle width="33%"><B>Price</B></TD></TR><TR bgColor=whitesmoke><TD width="33%"><B>01/07/2004</B></TD><TD width="33%">PCGS</TD><TD width="33%">$10,350.00</TD></TR><TR bgColor=whitesmoke><TD width="33%"><B>03/01/2003</B></TD><TD width="33%">PCGS</TD><TD width="33%">$8,912.50</TD></TR><TR bgColor=whitesmoke><TD width="33%"><B>07/30/2002</B></TD><TD width="33%">PCGS</TD><TD width="33%">$6,612.50</TD></TR><TR bgColor=whitesmoke><TD width="33%"><B>08/02/1997</B></TD><TD width="33%">PCGS</TD><TD width="33%">$12,650.00</TD></TR><TR bgColor=whitesmoke><TD width="33%"><B>01/01/2001</B></TD><TD width="33%">PCGS</TD><TD width="33%">$9,200.00</TD></TR><TR bgColor=whitesmoke><TD width="33%"><B>05/01/1999</B></TD><TD width="33%">PCGS</TD><TD width="33%">$7,150.00</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></TD></TR><TR><TD bgColor=#ffffff><FONT face=arial size=1 ?>PLEASE NOTE: All prices realized reflect the final hammer price PLUS the buyer's premium in auctions that charge a buyer's premium. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid. </span></font></tr></table></td></tr></table>
