1927 ORVILLE WRIGHT Signed Aviator’s Pilot Certificate
ORVILLE WRIGHT (1871-1948). Credited with inventing and building the world's first successful airplane and making the first controlled, powered and sustained heavier-than-air human flight, on December 17, 1903.
January 21, 1927-dated, Aviator’s Pilot Certificate Signed, “Orville Wright”, 4 pages, 3” x 4.25”, in blue leather wrappers with “Federation Aeronatique Internationale, National Aeronautic Association of U.S.A. Inc. - Certificate No. 6636”, Good. Stamped in gilt on the cover, showing lots of actual wear from use with some overall tone and soiling. Wright’s full signature is a bit light from wear yet fully clear and readable written in steel-tip fountain pen. This “Aviator’s Certificate” was issued to, and signed by the pilot Wallace F. Hope, certifying that the aviator had fulfilled all conditions required by the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale, as the governing authority for the United States of America. Hope’s worn, soiled and faded period photograph wearing his pilots helmet and goggles attached above his signature on the second page. This official aviation Document has been Signed by Orville Wright as Chairman of the Contest Committee on the front paste-down. This license also contains the following statement printed in six languages: “The Civil, Naval and Military Authorities, including the Police, are respectfully requested to aid and assist the holder of this Certificate.” A very desirable early aviation document signed by Orville Wright. Accompanied by a JSA, James Spence Letter of Authentication.
