1927 Jack Johnson Signed Autobiography. One of the most controversial figures in the history of sport was this man, whose story inspired a recent Ken Burns PBS special entitled "Unforgivable Blackness." Johnson's assumption of the Heavyweight boxing title in 1910, and his affinity for white women, inflamed the deepest racism among white America and, according to Johnson, led to his intentional forfeiture of the title in 1915. This well-written tale of his own life discusses it all, though collectors will be most interested in the 10/10 black ink signature on the opening blank page of the hardcover volume, which Johnson inscribes, "To My good Friend Geo McCarey with good Luck and best wishes From Jack Johnson." The first edition volume is in terrific condition, with some wear and staining to the dust jacket (which is usually not present at all) the only flaws worth noting. Essential reading, and an essential autograph, for any serious boxing enthusiast. LOA from PSA/DNA.
