1927-D 10C MS66 Full Bands PCGS. Ex: Stokely Coll
1927-D<10C> MS66 Full Bands PCGS. Ex: Stokely Collection. This is an unusually pleasing Gem whose surfaces are highly lustrous, and virtually flawless. There is not a single abrasion that would cause one to question the MS66 designation. At this level of preservation, the 1927-D is now considered to be even scarcer than the 1925-D. Despite a lower mintage, the 1927-D (4,812,000 pieces produced) has long been considered more common than the 1925-D (5,117,000 pieces produced). Attentive specialists will note, however, that NGC and PCGS combined report 37 1925-D dimes in MS66 Full Bands, and five higher. At the same level, the current population for the '27-D is 10 pieces with none finer (6/05). This original coin displays speckled golden-brown toning on both sides, yielding to sea-green color at the rims. Very well struck for a Mercury Dime, there is slight weakness noted on the T of LIBERTY, and on the lower diagonal crossband. For overall merit, this is probably a higher-end example than most of the similarly graded coins of the same issue. It also has all of the eye appeal that one could wish for. Population: 7 in 66, none finer (6/05).
