1926-S Buffalo Nickel PCGS MS64
For most catalogers, the prospect of describing even a low level Mint State-quality 1926-S Nickel is significant. Such has been the nature of our Buffalo Nickel offerings in recent sales (we have presented far too few of these key pieces). But we are delighted to offer an otherwise problem-free Mint State 64 graded by PCGS, whose output and consistent high standards earns coins in its holders a top-tier affection and respect from collectors and dealers alike. A satiny and lustrous 1926-S it is, too, with a nuance of faint silvery toning on both sides but for most purposes the luster is bright. The strike is virtually complete, although perhaps a hint of weakness is seen at the lower edge of the pelt where it meets the bison's shoulder and the forehead of the bison. Regarding the strike, 1926-S is like the 1926-D, subject to insufficient die pressure or, some have explained, overuse of dies well past their prime. Certainly among the most impressive survivors of this key-date, 970,000-coin delivery. Don't miss this wonderful opportunity! (#3959)
