1926-S 5C MS64 PCGS. Golden-brown streaks cross this lustrous and unabraded near-Gem. The mintmark is sharp, and the grade is only limited by the strike, which is nonetheless bold for this characteristically softly defined issue. The 1926-S is famous for its mintage of 970,000 pieces, the lowest production of this perpetually popular series. Unlike the 1931-S, which also has a very low mintage, the 1926-S preceded the widespread distribution of coin folders, and fewer pieces were set aside. The 1931-S nickel also benefited from the speculation over the 1931-S cent, while the 1926-S had no contemporary "instant rarity" to spur collector attention. The scarcity of the 1926-S in Mint State ensures its status as the regular issue series key. As of (10/06), PCGS and NGC combined have certified just 16 pieces finer.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
