1926-S<50C> Oregon MS68 PCGS. Ex: JFS Collection, Richard Jewell Collection. The Oregon Trail Memorial Half Dollar was struck in commemoration of the Oregon trail, and in memory of the pioneers who traveled along the famous 2,000 mile "highway of history." James Earle Fraser and his wife Laura Fraser, designers of the coin, aptly captured the essence of this historic era. The reverse depicts a pioneer family in a Conestoga wagon traveling westward, while the Indian with an upraised arm on the obverse tries desperately to stem the impending flow of settlers from the East. This example features a melange of low intensity gold, sky-blue, violet, and crimson toning over lustrous surfaces that are virtually unimpeded by marks of any kind. A stunning, virtually unimprovable specimen. Population: 4 in 68, 0 finer (8/06).
