1926-S<25C> MS65 Full Head PCGS. Full, vibrant, frosty textured luster graces surfaces that have been carefully preserved since the time of issue. They have also been originally preserved with moderate golden iridescence overlaying the obverse surface with an essentially brilliant appearance on the reverse. The striking definition is particularly praiseworthy over Liberty's head, where virtually every feature is crisply delineated.
The 1926-S started as a lower mintage issue with just 2.7 million pieces produced. Apparently, most were inadequately struck because the vast majority of coins that survived the passage of time do not qualify for a Full Head designation at the major grading services. Writing in 1986, J.H. Cline stated that no more than 12 Gem Full Head examples are available to collectors. While current certified population data would suggest a larger estimate, the totals are not as far removed from Cline's figures as one might expect. Combined NGC and PCGS Population: 26 in 65 Full Head, only 13 are finer (10/05).
