1926-S $20 MS65 PCGS. Since the discovery of several European hoards in the 1950s and 1960s, the rarity ranking of the 1926-S has been readjusted to the point that the date is now considered to be the most common branch mint Double Eagle from the 1924-1927 era. Still, just 150-200 coins are believed extant from an original mintage of more than 2 million pieces, and the Mint State population dwindles rapidly above the Choice level. A no-questions Gem, this otherwise orange-gold example reveals mottled lilac and rose colors in the center of the reverse. These shadings add considerably to the already stunning eye appeal. Both sides are smooth with nary a distracting abrasion to report. The reverse die crack at the eagle's beak is as struck. Population: 9 in 65, only one is finer (7/02). Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
