1926-S<10C> MS66 NGC. Lange indicates in his The Complete Guide to Mercury Dimes that "Choice and Gem specimens, even those having merely split bands, are frustratingly rare," and that "a full bands Gem of this date is easily among the most difficult coins in the entire series to locate." The middle horizontal bands on the fasces of this Premium Gem example are indeed split, but do not have quite the degree of relief for "Full Bands" designation. The overall shrike quality of the piece is excellent. Its lustrous surfaces on the obverse are mottled in sea-green, burnt-orange, crimson, and violet coloration, while the reverse is nearly untoned, but for whispers of gold color at the margins. There are no superficial impairments to report. Population: 3 in 66, 2 finer (4/05).
