1926-S 10C MS65 Full Bands PCGS. This is a curious issue from the standpoint of rarity. In an absolute sense, the 1926-S is a relatively common coin for a Mercury Dime with just 1.5 million pieces produced. On the other hand, the vast majority of survivors are well worn with the result that the issue is seldom offered in circulated grades above the VF level. Mint State examples are typically confined to the BU level, and they seldom display Full Bands definition. An MS65 Full Bands survivor such as that which we are offering in this lot is equally as rare as a similarly graded 1918-S, 1919-D, and 1919-S (per Lange, 1993). Smooth and fully lustrous, both sides are sharply struck with split central crossbands in the center of the reverse. Mottled orange-tan iridescence drifts over both sides, neither of which reveals a single distracting bagmark. An interesting die crack (as struck) bisects the middle of Liberty's portrait. Population: 20 in 65 Full Bands, 14 finer (1/03).From the Jay Eisenberg Collection. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
