In this case, only 1.9 million pieces were struck. In the early 1940s, the 1926 was considered the scarcest Peace dollar. Then various hoards emerged of this and other issues over the next 25 years, and today this date is considered a relatively available issue in mint condition. Of the hoard coins that have emerged over the decades, most 1926 Peace dollars do not seem to have suffered from the extensive bagmarks that plague other issues. Nevertheless, this is the only MS67 that has been certified by either of the major services and, of course, none are finer (3/06). This is an absolutely stunning coin. The surfaces are nearly perfect with no reportable abrasions on either side. The fields show evidence of light die striations, and the devices are fully struck throughout. Brilliant with lovely soft, frosted mint luster. A singular opportunity for the collector building a Registry Set of this popular series.
From The Robert Moreno Registry Collection of Peace Dollars.
