Bust Dollars 1799/8 13 Stars. Bolender-2. BB-143. NGC graded Mint State 63. <b>Superb "original" uniform light gray toning. Well struck, and as such, it is heads above most Choice Mint State Draped Bust dollars. Bolender-2 is one of two 1799/8 overdate die varieties sharing the same 13 Stars obverse. They are identifiable by dot-like die flaws around the date and LIBERTY. The reverse is characterized by a die break at the rim extending into the curve of D in UNITED and a lower left star with a point entering the eagle's mouth. It is a distinctive and extremely important variety. Boldender-2 is the scarcer of the two 13 star obverse overdates by a margin of about 2 to 1 in all grades, and is especially desirable at the higher levels. This fabulous example stands as a likely candidate for the finest known Mint State coin, with perhaps two or three other comparable specimens.
