1926-D$1> MS67 PCGS. Pastel sky-blue and almond-gold toning endows this lustrous and splendidly smooth Superb Gem. Both sides display only the faintest indications of contact. The major devices are unimprovably sharp, as are nearly all of the peripheral letters. Only the I in LIBERTY, and a few tips of nearby rays, display detectable incompleteness. The strike is sufficiently precise that die doubling is evident on the designer's monogram and on the tail of the 6 in the date. Even common dates such as the 1922 become prized conditional rarities at the MS67 level. The 1926-D is also extremely scarce in this grade. As of (9/06), PCGS and NGC have graded a combined 13 pieces as MS67, with none finer. Since the Peace dollar set is readily completed in Mint State, holders of competitive Registry Sets prize examples that will immediately place their collection within the top tier. Certified in a small-sized, first generation PCGS holder.
