1926-D 5C MS66 PCGS. While the 1926-D is not as rare in Mint State as the 1925-D, it is equally as difficult to find sharp. Both dates are strike rarities on par with such earlier branch mint issues as the 1919-D, 1919-S, and 1920-S. This lovely '26-D is not only boldly, if not sharply struck throughout, but it possesses smooth surfaces that are free of outwardly distracting blemishes. The full horn on the bison is particularly noteworthy, but shimmering mint luster is another feature that accounts for the superior technical quality. The originally preserved surfaces are awash in light-to-moderate golden-tan patina. This coin is superior to the 1926-D that we sold as lot 5499 in our June 2002 sale of the Marvin Elkin Collection (the Jon/Lor PCGS Registry Set), and it is also the first example so graded by PCGS to appear in a Heritage Signature Sale since 1998. Clearly, this lot offers a bidding opportunity that is not soon to be repeated. Population: 14 in 66, just one is finer (10/02).From the BTB Collection of Buffalo Nickels. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
